When Lily Ella met Gok Wan!
What a fantastic time we had at the Gok Wan One Size Fits All roadshow which launched at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton Hotel on Sunday 30th September!
The whole Lily Ella team turned out to meet Gok and enjoy his catwalk show, which featured Lily Ella at the top of the bill. We enjoyed fizz and brunch before Gok hosted the fashion event.
We can genuinely say we were thrilled to see how well our clothes looked on the catwalk. We are used to seeing our lovely Lily Ella threads on a daily basis in the professional photos on the walls in our office – but to see them live on the catwalk was an altogether thrilling experience! On Gok’s catwalk though we were able to see our key pieces being showcased up close and personal, being worn in the flesh - and being described by Gok himself. What a treat and something we can be very proud of!
Lily Ella’s 10 outfits went down really well with the large audience. Gok gave our Collection a ringing endorsement and heartily recommended our clothes as offering that special something for Every Woman – shapely, interesting clothes which are cut to flatter the mature woman’s figure.
Zoe’s ethos in designing each collection has always been to create stylish, timeless pieces with femininity and comfort at their heart. Throughout each collection there is an appreciation of seasonal trends and colour-palettes without being a slave to fashion and an emphasis on quality and fit as well as unique, fun and flattering designs. She have always felt the women in the classic market are significantly under catered for - why can’t dressing be fun for the over sixties?
We all know it’s often difficult for women of a certain age to find really comfortable clothes that reflect fashion trends, which is why at Lily Ella we design our clothes up to size 26, so everyone (up to size 26!) can look fabulous and enjoy great quality fashion.
Our Lily Ella Collection neatly offers the solution to Gok Wan’s self-avowed mission on this Tour: ‘To personally dress the nation and instill a sense of body confidence in women up and down the country’. When Gok’s team approached us earlier this year to explain he was bringing his roadshow to Newcastle. They relayed that he had visited our website and loved our collection and specifically what we were offering the more mature lady. Our brand values have a natural synergy with Gok’s repeated message that there is a direct correlation between looking good and feeling good.
Behind the scenes at the show it was all go. We’d gone along the day before to drop our outfits off, meet Gok’s stylist and discuss the running order of the show. One the day itself, founder Zoe, buyer Steph and Northumbria Uni fashion intern Emily met Gok prior to the event.
There was an interval between the two halves of the runway show and before things started up again Gok hosted an entertaining Q&A session, a Lingerie Masterclass (who knew?!) and a How to Wear the Trends section.
What we learned was - we’ve got the trends, the comfort factor and the quality – and you can wear them!
One of the highlights was the big reveal when an audience member received a stunning makeover courtesy of Gok and his team.
All in all a hugely enjoyable day out.
Gok was so pleased with Lily Ella he’s invited Zoe to bring the Collection down and join him at his roadshow in Bristol on 20th October and then again in Southampton on 21st October. We have tried everything to make the dates work but with the upcoming Spring Summer 2019 photo shoot the following week means we just can’t commit on these occasions, which we are genuinely gutted about!
What better compliment could we have then Gok’s personal seal of approval?
